The Malaysia chapter of APACD launched on February 11 in Kuala Lumpur at the Twin Towers co-hosted by BASF, Sapura and PETRONAS. The event was indeed a great success gathering about 100 communicators from an array of industries, including technology, consulting, finance, consumer goods, and pharmaceuticals from Malaysia in one place.
Liz Kamaruddin's, Senior General Manager of Group Strategic Communications shared her experiences concerning PETRONA's Social Media Policy, social media etiquette and challenges. All topics discussed including freedom of speech, internal communications and social intranet stirred a good discussion. The forum dialogue following the keynote saw many questions arising with Liz Kamaruddin and the APACD country coordinators Rajan Moses from Sapura and Robitahani Zainal from BASF engaging the audience. "To date the APACD represents the first professional organisation for in-house professionals in Malaysia, stirring a lot of interest and filling a major vacuum in the region." said Moses.
Timing was good as PETRONAS took the opportunity to announce their new CEO Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin as Petronas President and Chief Executive Officer effective of April 1, 2015 until March 31, 2018.
The vibrant discussion among attendees surrounded a wide variety of fields including internal communications, crisis management, social media and branding. The session was concluded with the outlook for a next APACD chapter event taking place in March/April 2015.
